No actually, you're the one that sounds like a religious fanatic, advocating some non-specific mumbo-jumbo to improve our schools, so long as you don't have to open your wallet.
Teachers salaries are a pathetic JOKE in this country. 20 k a year? Sure, that'll attract our best and brightest. My mother, a second grade teacher for 35 years now, who does it because she'e loves it, has to bring in FLOOR HEATERS to heat her room because the district is too poor to provide adequate central heating for her classroom. My mother teaches because she loves it, but depending on altruism and charity is a very poor way to run a school system. Every decent businessman understands that you pay and motivate your best people with FINANCIAL incentives. Usually these decent businessmen include Republicans, but they seem to get lost when translating good business concepts to our schools.

I do agree with your last statement- all politicians SHOULD be required to send their children to public schools.
