Subic has changed a good deal since the Navy left... no more bars, for one thing, and not nearly as many Americans.

Actually there wasn't an aircraft carrier in Manila Bay during the fall of Marcos and the rise of Aquino. You may be thinking of the '89 coup, when a couple of F-4s from Clark buzzed Manila, signaling the rebel forces (which would have had full US support if they had pulled it off cleanly) that time was up. A carrier in Manila Bay would have been pretty superfluous in any event, given the proximity of Clark and Subic. By the late '80s there was so much US military hardware on Luzon that the whole island was widely regarded as an unsinkable aircraft carrier.

Things change.
