All:
This is so weird..Intel complains that Europe is weak (as did the networkers, BTW), but Compaq and Dell came out and said that Europe is better than ever (which is why the market is rallying!). Doesn't make sense..
My take:
Intel does much of their business with American companies, i.e., selling to the likes of Dell, Gateway, Compaq, IBM, H-P, Packard-Bell (who is now with NEC), etc. So it's strange that they say "Europe is slow." I would think that Intel's business model doesn't even let them have much visibility where their chips are ultimately going--they just sell primarily to the American companies who then value-adds resells their chips..They don't worry about the end-user.
You'd think that it would be Dell and Compaq crying about Europe, not Intel, which should be oblivious to what's going on with end-users. I would think that they shouldn't know where their chips ultimately end up.
Comments, please?
