Jim, <Perhaps all the absentee ballots nationwide, that were not counted because the their weren't enough total votes to make differences, will be counted to give some legitimacy to the election.>

Hillary wants to end the electoral college. A few months ago, I would have agreed with her, but after seeing this recount mess dragged on for so long, I've had a change of heart. If we argued over absentee ballot lawsuits and dimpled chads in Florida alone, think of what would have happened if the popular vote actually mattered in this election. We'd have to recount every ballot in every state, plus count every absentee ballot (including the few million that weren't counted because it wouldn't have made a difference in that state alone), watch as hundreds of lawsuits get appealed all the way up to the USSC, etc.

And in any case, there will always be a shadow of illegitimacy over the winner of any close election. Wonder what Gore will say today. I think by now it would be in his best personal interests to concede and try to lift that shadow that he and his lawyers tried to cast in the first place.
