They've already said quite a bit. They've said there are no accounting problems. They've said (a few weeks ago) they were on track for the quarter. They've in effect endorsed the IDC report; if they were about to warn of problems I doubt they'd crow so loudly. Carly Fiorina implied HP wasn't seeing much competition from IBM not long ago when she said HP was in a two-horse race with Sun. Lou Gerstner implied Sun is the one to beat a few days ago in a speech. I think Compaq said Windows 2000 is lagging behind expectations. It looks like Greenspan is nearly satisfied with inflation prospects. Bush will probably be President, but with a Congress that is divided enough to thwart any plans for a big, inflationary tax cut. The Euro has risen off its bottom a little, helping Europeans to afford American products and improving the conversion of European earnings to dollars. So things aren't so bad fundamentally.
