And in any case, there will always be a shadow of illegitimacy over the winner of any close election. Wonder what Gore will say today. I think by now it would be in his best personal interests to concede and try to lift that shadow that he and his lawyers tried to cast in the first place.


Gore's spinsters are floating the idea of him not conceding (as in saying he lost the election) but rather him just saying that his campaign is "over." If he follows that course, he will be excommunicated from his party. The Democrats need him to fall on his sword. He already lost Tennessee, now he'll lose Georgetown.
