Hi abstract, I'm sure you will have a different perception than mine. However, I think this is how many will see things as time passes & folks look back on what actually transpired sans partisan spin. Perhaps not...... Perhaps history will determine Gore ultimately failed to ask for a statewide recount as well as uniform statewide standards the day after the election. Trying to win a national election by cherry picking Democratic strongholds for additional votes freed Pandora & allowed the chaos machine to run amuck. Gore choose the wrong path from the get go & made wrong turns at every juncture, IMVHO. His passionate desire to win clouded his perception of reality of what constituted a full, fair & accurate recount. The FLSC chose to be activist rather than pragmatic, thus failing to create any potential legitimate solutions. This was due to allowing partisan bias to cloud pragmatic objectivity & replace it with faulty perceptions of reality to guide their rulings. The USSC could not cross the legal hurdles placed in front of them by Team Gore & the FLSC, preventing them from finding a legitimate & timely solution to count ALL LEGAL VOTES. They may have voted along partisan lines, but the majority of the USSC had the Rule of Law as the basis for their ruling. Bush won the original count & state required recount. He had absolutely no reason to protest/contest anything. All he needed to do was to work to see that the Rule of Law was followed. IMVHO, Bush did exactly that. People across this land will continue to live with their personal bias. Their perceptions of this event will be their reality...... regardless of the facts. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.
