I don't know about TG, but his really bad message did get deleted. I did ask SI Bob whether they had software that scanned for profanity and he said no, they relied on posters to keep them advised, so presumably either TG asked them to delete it or somebody did turn him in. Don't know which.

I'm too tired right now to start another major discussion, but will be glad to join in later if it gets going.

The issue of reconciliation will keep roiling through the Jan 20 inauguration, when large demonstrations will probably erupt in DC, but within a month of that it will calm back down and people will get back to their own business. Bush won't try anything majorly controversial for the first few months, and his cabinet picks will be soothing to many. Jesse Jackson is typically good for stirring things up for up to two months, but he has no lasting power. By April or May President Bush will sound normal and all this will be but a distant memory.

One good thing to come out of the SC decision is that over the next two years every state will be revisiting their election statutes to see whether they need to be fixed.

One bad thing is that every close election potentially becomes a federal issue since the per curiam decision didn't restrict the equal protection of voting rights to elections for federal officials. So even a dogcatcher who lost by 19 to 18 votes has a potential federal case if she can claim she was treated unequally.
