Er, aside from the dubious logic above, I think you're projecting Republican ideology onto Democrats. In case you didn't notice, preaching hatred of the political opposition has been a somewhat prevalent tool in Republican circles for the past 8 years.

Personally, I don't dislike W, though I became quite suspicious of his handlers after the McCain episode. He'll have his chance, but given the control of Congress by the DeLay/Lott wing of the party, he's going to have some fancy footwork to do. He could turn out to be like Reagan, with good enough handlers behind the scenes, but without the reservoir of good will Reagan had going in, that's going to be tough.
