What bothers me is the futility of the USSCT's call for a uniform standard. Is it even possible to create a standard beyond clear voter intent at the county level when there are 6 (?) different tabulation schemes? Perhaps a different standard for each type—punchcards, optical, fill-in, etc.—would qualify as equal protection? But, without a uniform ballot system for federal and statewide elections any thought of a standard is likely illusory. survivin
