Hi bwanadon,

Re: At least Maureen is even handed (she hasn't spared Al when he had it coming either). Indeed, there is a little truth in all humor.

I'm a huge fan of Garrison Keillor, the host of A Prarie Home Companion. His wry wit and satire have stung Jesse Ventura, the Governor of Keillor's home state and he's taken effective shots at Albore, his own worst enemy. Lately, the dufus meter has been running off the scale, though, in tribute to GWB, the man who can't get enough of Crawford.

Years ago, I had a friend from Texas named Schweppo. That fellow knew a thing or two about parties and driving. In that he wasn't dumb enough to party and then drive. So he had a clean record, but a weak mind. Schweppo inherited a quarter of a million dollars when he turned 21, real money in the early 1970's. Oil money, from his grandma. Before he turned 22, he'd spent it all. The biggest extavagance was his and his wife's decision to donate their residence and about 30 acres and to some religious fanatics, the Sufis.

Well, this upset Schweppo's dad to no end. Dad was a Texas oilman and a financier. It took his lawyers many months to get the gifted property re-deeded to the family and out of the hands of the mystics. In the meantime, Schweppo and his wife were herded back from the Northwest and were ensconced on a ranch in the Central Texas foothills, not too far from Crawford. They were not allowed to drive themselves off the property. They were not allowed to control money. They were not welcomed in polite society. Funny how history has a way of repeating itself.
