One thought I had that any accountants or tax planning attorneys might want to comment on: this is a good time to gift to your heirs or to charities some of the shares of SUNW that you may be holding for the long term.

The bears can swagger as much as they want, but Sun is a good long-term investment. Right this minute, after a split and a precipitous drop, you can give 300 or so equivalent SUNW shares via the $10,000 annual exclusion (i.e. the amount that you can give without incurring gift taxes or using up any of your 650k lifetime estate tax Applicable Exclusion Amount.) A few years from now, that 300 shares is probably going to look quite a bit better than $10,000 in cash given today sitting in a fund or a CD.

I know I'm doing it for my kids plus a charity. Just a thought, comments welcome.
