the only thing that bothers me is that it's a completely false report. too bad pmcs doesn't actually pursue the oc-192 market! too bad amcc has had a huge number of oc-192 wins in place at cisco for a long time. interestingly pmcs and amcc are starting to overlap at the oc-48 space, pmcs has a huge number of new wins in the metro oc-48 space. But amcc's oc-48 products are typically used in more long haul applications. i doubt this came from robbie, i'd bet it came from a hedge fund looking to spread rumors and make money on a pmcs short. heck a few days ago, i heard rumors of a pmcs pre-announce. all i can say is i WISH my companies could report their results BEFORE year end, it'd be nice to have the sigh of relief before January. my feelings on the fundamentals of amcc and pmcs are similar. (although my instinct is that amcc is growing a tad faster right now since they're a "younger" company.) I expect they'll butt heads a bit more in the coming years, but our view is that the market is large enough for them both to be tremendous long term players. td
