Are you telling me that they should be penalized because their skipper fails to get that mail run picked up and delivered in a timely manner?

I don't expect any more from a GI than the Reps do of a welfare mom. Show some responsibility, some initiative, some creativity, and not expect to be coddled. Democracy sometimes requires a little effort. How can we expect our GIs to win a war if they can't even figure out how to get their ballot postmarked? If the chain of command didn't understand that voting is an important morale issue, they do now and it's in the military's best interests to have their guys vote. They might just need a reminder. If push comes to shove, any GI can send his ballot to his congressman or a wives' group or the League of Women Voters and ask that it get into the mail. This is a simple, administrative process, not Omaha Beach.

Sure, that shouldn't be necessary. It also shouldn't be necessary to remind local boards to design ballots with print big enough for old people to read, but sometimes you need to assert yourself. Are you telling me the Marines can't assert themselves enough to get their votes in properly? Surely you're not telling me that they are such Sad Sacks that they need special treatment? Yeah, they deserve it, but so does everyone else who makes a sacrifice to vote.
