Re: Digital TV - VOD Revenues Estimates

I wrote: IMO, I can easily see this generating an extra $10/month in revenues from the average TV viewer. So let's say it's $5/month. $5/month x 12 months x 70 million subs = $4,200,000,000/year. If you raise that to $10/month, then it moves to $8,400,000,000/year incremental revenue for the MSOs.

Strategis Group writes: VoD alone is expected to generate $2.6 billion in incremental revenue for cable operators by 2005.

Mkilloran and Thread- Well I don't get it. Why only $2.6 billion? By 2005 I would guess just about 100% of the cable TV plant will be digital. And it costs nothing to offer up VOD to their subs....oh I get it. Must be something along the lines of what ftth(the person) is saying. There may be no way to offer up VOD to all subs on the current state of the art 750mhz HFC plant. My guess is the Strategis Group is only expecting VOD to be offered to only about one-third of the MSO households in the USA. -MikeM(From Florida)
