In other words, Not In My Back Yard. We moved to a nice neighborhood in a good school district to get away from a high school that has gangs. Yet, across the street is a black couple, across the street from them is a black family, two houses up the street is a black family, and the family in the house next door to them are Middle Eastern. We all live in harmony. It's not about race, it's about class, education, and the way kids are brought up.
It's also about discipline. One thing Fairfax does is have a police officer in a police car on the grounds of every high school all day, and the kids are encouraged to rat on kids with drugs, weapons, etc. As a mother, I approve.
It's also about a good juvenile justice system. When kids commit crimes, they are still kids and there may be a way to save them.
It's also about a good agency to investigate child abuse and neglect.
Unfortunately, these things take money, something the "bad" neighborhoods don't have. |
