There was a fellow once in this State who wanted
to be a lawyer. He worked hard, and after many, many years recieved his degree from law school. Then he took the bar exam. And Failed. He took it again, and failed again. He kept taking it, and finally scraped by with a barely passing score. He hung out his shingle, so to speak. But as a lawyer he was a failure, a total zero.
One day someone asked him why he didn't do something else.
Because I want to be a lawyer, he replied. "Well, fact is you are not very good at it. You only got through law school because your professors passed you through the system because of who you are. It took you forever to pass the bar. Why don't you run in the upcomming election for the State Supreme Court?"

"Me? I am a terrible laywer. How could I get elected to the Supreme Court?"

"Easy. Nobody knows who to vote for in those races. They don't even recognize the names. But they will know yours. You are famous in this State. You are one of the greatest football players ever. You are the only defensive lineman to win the Most Valuable Player in the NFL. You will win because the voters will recognize your name and vote for you. Its in the bag, if you run."

And he ran, and he won, and he has won every election since and is on the State Supreme Court right now.
