Politics is about parties. It is about compromise between two opposing world views. Perot and other third-parties have failed because they mistakenly maintained that there are some universally believed-in solutions to most issues that are stifled by "partisanship". Clinton effectively positioned himself by accusing anyone who opposed him (including those who wanted to prosecute him for several felonies!) of "partisanship".

In Perot's case, it was pure ignorance. In Clinton's case, it was dishonesty, which he honed to a fine art. But while many compromises will likely occur in the next year (see my last post), there will be no escape from the FACT of two opposing views of government and the world in general. It is a part of nature, and, whenever a nation has managed to suppress it, totalitarian disaster has been the result...
