My experience with Amazon for toys was also that they were out of stock on several items I was looking for. EToys had much better availability.

This was on Briefing.com's In Play section:

09:30 ET Amazon.com (AMZN) 24 1/16 +5/16 (+1.3%): Prudential says its return trip to four online stores in mid-December revealed that Toysrus.com/Amazon.com had a greater out-of-stock position than any other online retailer; firm says results surprised it given Toysrus.com's supposed ability to tap into the parent company's physical store inventory.
