<The holiday selling season is a pretty small window, with most sales happening in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. >

Chips for the systems are sold several weeks in advance to the actual system sales.

<And by all accounts, sales pretty much fell off a cliff relative to expectations. Stores and online vendors expected a huge increase in sales at the end of November, and that increase didn't happen. Until a week or so into December, exactly what was happening must have been a bit of a mystery to everyone.>

True, the falloff was steep. As I said before, the problem was not that it was a miss but on how it was communicated. One can't help but note that AMD's largest customer cried uncle well before AMD preannounced and held a conf call to tell what they think happened.
