The START treaty is, indeed, BS, as are all such treaties. What do you think the world is really like? I thought so!

There are two emotions in the world, just as there are in the markets: Fear and Greed. If you are brave enough to even suggest defending liberty in a hostile world, you make damn sure that you will be feared as necessary.

Our enemies (and yes there are some) fear us building an effective missile defense. Because we'd threaten them? No, because it precludes them from threatening us, and the elements that desire freedom in their countries will then survive, to threaten their power.

Offensive weapons? There is no better deterrent to biological or chemical attack than absolute, assured destruction of the attacker.

Terrorism? Perhaps if we had a wiser, less interventionist foreign policy than Adolph Clinton followed, it would be a good start on dealing with terrorism. Herr Clinton also let our intelligence structure deteriorate to the point where he has created another real danger.

I know all this scares you, and that can't be helped. My point is that I suspect enough of the remaining Democrats in Congress understand it to be able to reach common ground with Republicans on a rational defense policy. Hearing it from Powell and Rice certainly won't hurt in influencing them, either.
