Can someone give the detail of the conflict of interest allegations involving Scalia's two sons and Thomas's wife? Is it disconcerting that both Rehnquist and O'Connor have said that they wanted to retire but would do it only if a Republican were the next president? Does that rise to the level of a conflict of interest? I wonder how the Republicans on the Why Does Gore...Steal etc thread would feel had these situations been reversed. Probably they would trust the judges to do the right thing, rising above their personal or family interest.
