I suspect there's no way Dell will escape this weakness and will warn also. Probably flat with Q3, similar to last Q4 without the margin problem they had back then.

I have the same feeling. This is how these things start and they get out of hand very quickly. This one however could be a little worse than anyone is currently willing to predict due in part to the false economy component which was driven by tremendous stock market gains.

I suspect real estate is about to get hit hard next year. It will start on the west coast and rapidly spread east.

I personally know a lot of folks who went from wealthy back to middle class and some who lost everything this year. Needless to say, their spending and investment plans have been scrapped altogether. Extrapolate outward to the multitudes in the same boat and it's something that won't go unnoticed by the economy.

Of course I tried to warn my friends about what I felt was a massive speculative bubble that could burst at any time but alas, the newbies proclaimed it was different this time and that I was too conservative.

Of course, I truly hope that this is the worst of it and that the economy will come roaring back right away in 2001... we can always hope.
