Despite some wonderful feedback on the moderated thread I still don't think I understand this deal with TI. If, as has been stated here, TI is a major supplier to Ericsson and Nokia, I don't understand how it can be claimed QCOM is going to make as much from WCDMA as from CDMA2000. That would imply TI gave QCOM its GSM and DSP goodies for the right to pay QCOM the going rate for CDMA licenses. In other words, they gave away their crown jewels for nothing?! I'm having trouble believing TI is either that benevolent or that stupid.

They got *something* for it, and it's not exactly a stretch to figure out that TI thinks this deal will increase their competitiveness against SpinCo in the wireless space.
