In theory, at least, competition drives prices downward eventually in every case - or at least acts as a mechanism to drive prices downward. Deregulation of the airline industry increased competition. I don't know anything about brokerage fees, didn't even know they had been regulated. My point was that if prices are held artificially low by regulation, they are going to go up if deregulated.
