RE: "The easiest way to exploit Brinker's timing is to buy Vanguard Index Total Stock Market which gives you the entire United States market."
Yes, I agree that this is the easiest way. Additionally, it is probably the best way for the majority of investors, who are typically "average Joe's" with little experience in active management of their money.
However, for those of us who are very experienced in stock market investing, have found a way to remain calm during periods of market ecstasy and panic, and who truly enjoy being students of the market, there are other ways to implement Bob's timing approach.
For instance, in the latest "Gift Horse Buying Opportunity," I purchased a science and technology fund that Mr. Brinker likes. This fund has appreciated almost 25% since my purchase, twice as much as the Total Market Index. I have also done quite well during the last few months on individual stocks that I've been investing in and following for years.
Don't get me wrong, I do invest a portion of my portfolio in index funds, but for the majority of my equity holdings, I choose a more active approach.
Plus I ENJOY the active approach!
Best wishes,
