In an effort to boost population growth, our Provincial government began paying mothers thousands of dollars to have children. As of her third child, the government would pay the mother approximately $6000. This family allowance program ran for several years until our brilliant bureaucrats finally realized that the program wasn't achieving the goal they were hoping for. Middle class families did not suddenly decide to have children to benefit from the program. Instead, an increase in the birth rate of unwed mothers, low income families and families on welfare was most noticeable. These low income families didn't realize that it costs more than $6000 to raise a child.

The result of this program is that we now have more mouths to feed on welfare. Some of these welfare mothers had 5,6,7 children and in most instances, from different fathers.

Oh, but I shouldn't talk too loud or I'll be called a racist.
