That is a lot to ask of a group of companies not accustomed to change

Its not me that is asking. Do you think the marketplace is giving out special dispensation to big slow monopolies?

It would be suicide for the BOCs to close themselves off from the only viable way to handle the scale of data developing. Who gets hurt the most? When CLECs deliver voice and high speed services over Internet, the local BOC monopoly which provides the possibility for high handed narrow minded decisions like OSMINE certification (read electrical antiques invented by Edisons) is rendered unable to compete.

What is SCMR's market and where is the locus of points between that market and the edge? Do you really see the granularity of the mesh becoming so fine as to obviate the need for local distribution? You imply that's where
SCMR must provision the mesh, down in the BOC neighborhoods. If SCMR's clients took it there, it's all over now BOC.

The FCC would applaud. Att is already swimming in PacBell's soup with data in place and voice ready for launch. The concern is that it will be so successful it'll blow the 'bones out. Enter SCMR and entourage.
