Tandberg Television Selects C-Cube's Advanced Broadcast Codec to Power Digital News Gathering Encoders DVxpert(R) 6110 Delivers Bandwidth Efficiency, Superior Video Quality And Application Flexibility MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- C-Cube Microsystems (Nasdaq: CUBE - news) today announced that Tandberg Television in Norway, a leader in digital broadcasting solutions, has selected the C-Cube DVxpert broadcast codec as the engine for its latest series of digital electronic and satellite news gathering encoders -- innovative solutions for the mobile news gathering market. C-Cube's DVxpert 6110 will be used in Tandberg's E5100 and E6100 devices which allow reporters covering breaking news stories to quickly beam news footage back to studios for broadcast.
(Photo: newscom.com ) The process, called mobile contribution, involves providing temporary satellite feeds or terrestrial links for these transmissions. Mobile contribution allows news stations to reduce costs by minimizing the amount of transponder bandwidth they need and to improve the speed of news coverage, even from helicopters and motorbikes.
``We needed a compression solution that delivers the bandwidth savings, high image quality, low power for portability, and compactness required by digital news gathering applications,'' said Marc Genin, Tandberg Mobile Contribution Segment marketing manager. ``C-Cube's DVxpert 6110 second generation device met all of these requirements.''
To help conserve bandwidth, C-Cube's single-chip codec delivers superior MPEG-2 ML@4:2:2 and ML@MP video compression at all bit rates. DVxpert 6110 also features C-Cube's patented encoding algorithm technology, PerfectView®, which produces optimum picture quality at lower data rates and reduces the deterioration of image quality as video signals pass through the several conversations required for up-converting to the satellite and down-converting to the receiver.
Tandberg's selection of DVxpert 6110 is a strong endorsement of our second generation DVxpert broadcast encoder,`` said Bob Saffari, director of advanced video products at C-Cube. ''The PerfectView algorithm of the DVxpert 6110, and its advanced features met Tandberg's most exacting requirements for news gathering and broadcast encoding technology.``
DVxpert 6100, available now, is packaged in a compact 308-pin BGA and consumes less than 2 watts of power. Based on C-Cube's DVx single-chip codec architecture, the DVxpert 6110 also offers downloadable software, making it the most flexible codec solution in the market.
