Competitors of SCMR are willing to play the game with the BOCs Who we talking here....CIEN? LU? NT? LU is only the first casualty. It ain't the money for certification that is the issue here, but time. I still contend that competitors to SCMR that wait for certification will fall behind, some hopelessly behind. They will take the money offered by pandering to the BOCs and will sacrifice a competitive edge in the process. This isn't your father's network any more. SCMR isn't trying to force their standards, they are trying to establish interim standards that move and change faster than the "iceberg with a tugboat" standards of the BOCs. SCMR has a lot of support from the other companies involved in this fast moving landscape and undoubtedly they will give on some issues. Its too early in the creation of mesh topologies to establish strict standards, that doesn't mean that there can't be a dialogue about them, standards aren't mandated they evolve. Everything SCMR makes can be modified after the fact, it has upgrade-able firmware, so as standards evolve so can the equipment they sell today. No one, even the mighty BOCs can afford to ignore technology that offers efficiency that is magnitudes higher than what they are using now. I wonder why BellSouth doesn't share the other BOCs resistance? I wonder how Vodaphone can justify going with unblessed equipment? What was WCOM thinking? How does Quest get away with it? And those upstarts 360?! Let's not forget Williams.....me thinks we find some BOCs on this list sooner rather than later.
