Webvan Weathers Sleet, Wind, Rain and Snow to Deliver to
Customers in Chicago and Dallas

FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 2000--Not even a Midwest winter storm could keep Webvan and HomeGrocer from delivering much needed groceries to their customers' homes. Both Webvan-Chicago and HomeGrocer-Dallas reported an approximate 30-percent increase in orders prior to the storm as consumers prepared for the impending severe weather.

Both Webvan and HomeGrocer maintained their consistently high on-time delivery record during the three-day winter storm in Chicago and Dallas thanks to some innovative methods utilized by the company's associates.

A true testament to Webvan's and HomeGrocer's commitment to customer service, associates rallied together to ensure customers' orders were fulfilled and delivered on time despite the challenging weather conditions. Couriers created makeshift sleds to trek the totes through snow- covered streets and sidewalks. To make sure they did not track the slushy snow into the customers' homes, couriers used disposable shoe covers to place over their boots prior to entering the homes.

``This was Webvan's and HomeGrocer's first test encountering severe winter weather conditions and I could not be more proud of the performance and dedication of our Chicago and Dallas associates to meet our customers' needs,'' said George T. Shaheen, chairman and CEO of Webvan Group, Inc. ``Our associates had to think quickly on their feet and use some unconventional methods to get to the customers and their ingenuity and tenacity paid off despite treacherous weather conditions.''

Chicago residents were thrilled to receive their Webvan deliveries as evidenced by an email from a Webvan-Chicago customer:

``I want to make sure people at Webvan recognize the outstanding job Jeremy Hill did on Monday, Dec 11th. That wonderful guy actually showed up on time which, is no surprise for Webvan, except that there was 14 inches of snow and a blizzard warning. What a great guy. I really appreciate him coming and the fact that he was on time in those horrible weather conditions made it even better. Please make sure he gets the credit he deserves,'' said Jane Bertolni, Chicago resident and Webvan customer.
