JL, Authentec is one of several silicon vendors. They may be showing more signs of life than Veridicom, but they share the same technical limitations of an inherently fragile reader that is presently not priced competitively with the Identix DFR-300. Their alliances are also second tier compared to the Identix alliances. While they probably have an advantage in "failure to acquire" concerns, I believe they have a different kind of accuracy problem; however, I don't remember the specifics and haven't found my notes.

I rate them with Digital Persona, Ethentica, Secugen, and Veridicom as a legitimate, but significantly trailing, competitor.
