Can you picture this?

Mr Bush said that the full realisation that he would be America’s 43rd president did not sink in until the morning after his Democratic rival, Al Gore, had conceded and he began receiving calls of congratulation from world leaders, beginning with Tony Blair.

“I didn’t sleep well,” Mr Bush said yesterday.

It was not known how Mr Gore slept after finally admitting defeat, but he certainly let his hair down to judge from photographs taken at a post-concession party that show the Vice-President dancing wildly and swigging beer from the bottle.
