Microsoft Warns. A positive for SanDisk?

What is the main reason for Microsoft's dampened expectations?

siliconinvestor.com

Well, look at PC sales and the prior warnings by the PC box
makers and realize that every new PC sales equates to an automatic
Microsoft purchase. And when people fail to see any additional
value from upgrading their PC to the latest model, the PC market
softens and Microsoft's OEM sales plummet. To be honest the
last greatest PC accessories I have purchased have been a DSL
modem, my CD burner and my digital camera. What doesn't excite me
anymore? Well, I now own 4 or 5 OEM versions of Microsoft Windows 3.x,
Windows 95 and Windows 98, as well as the generic office suite items
with Outlook and they are about as bland as a gallon-size family
pack of vanilla ice cream.

The PC market is mature. It is overripe. It is has had its run.
It has been commoditized to the point where some companies were even
giving away boxes in exchange for ISP subscriptions. And with this
maturation we have come to the point of sales deceleration.

Dell is having trouble.
Compaq is having trouble.
Apple is having trouble.
The list goes on and on.

I hope that this holiday season will demonstrate that consumers
are now turning a cold shoulder to PC boxes and are opening their
arms wide and embracing PC accessories. This list will include
digital cameras, MP3 players, handheld PC's, GPS systems and the like.
These are smaller, more easily digestible purchases that come in
compact and easily gift wrapped boxes...

...and there is not a nickel of
profit for Microsoft in any one of them.
