Every left-wing creep who has posted on these boards since the election seems to feel compelled to claim to be an "independent".

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be on the watch for those creeps claiming to be independent. In the mean time maybe you should try not to jump to conclusions about people and where they fit in the political spectrum. I voted a third party presidential candidate this year since I found both the Republican and Democratic candidates equally unappealing. Four years ago I voted for Dole but now when I think of Republicans I think of the House Republican leadership and shake my head in disgust, what a bunch of hypocrites. With majorities in the House and Senate the Republicans wasted this advantage on witch-hunts.

I’m actually fairly pleased at the overall outcome of this election, a president who received less votes than his opponent can’t go off on some ideological agenda, claiming a mandate or invoking the "will of the people" stuff. The senate is divided evenly and the house is close to even. I smell gridlock, which’s not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to the federal government. If Bush hopes to accomplish anything he needs to do it in the first two years before the Dems take over the house and he’s going to have to play to the center in order to get anything passed.

The one really depressing thing that was evident during the last election is that neither party or any of our governmental institutions is able to put the good of the country above partisan concerns.
