NEWS BRIEF (posted 12/16/00) "7GT enabling Technology" "System Optimization via Learning Algorithms"

Boulder, Colorado.

The technology developed by Dr. Bill Hutchison, Chief Scientist and co-founder of 7GT, optimizes the process of interpreting inputs and producing outputs in a complex system. It can work on any system, but is only really valuable for inherently complex systems. The system can be complex due to the quantity and complexity of inputs, quantity and complexity of outputs, or the quantity and complexity of interactions between the two.

Hutchison's vision is that complex systems must be optimized as a system, not as a series of subsystems. Furthermore, the system needs to be continuously re-optimized as a result of changing inputs and changing requirements (or desired outputs). Finally, Hutchison has developed a tool, or "training model," to achieve the optimization through the combination of generic algorithms and neural networks (i.e. "learning algorithms.").

Dr. Hutchison's process is covered by a number of patents, specifically:
No. 5,802,506 - Protects the architecture, or the physical integration of how all the pieces fit (issued on 9/1/98).
No. 6,038,556 - Protects the integration of language and learning, covering how you teach an agent rules (issued on 3/14/00).
Patent Pending - Protects how an agent learns to find objects that match descriptions.
