Yeah, they were scaring us with that earthquake-tsunami news a few months ago. The sea floor drops off very quickly here, and apparently this increases the prospect of getting a tsunami. It would have to go inland more than 10 miles to get me, so neener neener neener.

The carriers at my office are doing something like CR's club. Each year we pick a family to help for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year it's a single mother of 5 who is a neighbor of one of our carriers. The kids range from ... about 5 to 18. This woman has cancer, and is just starting chemotherapy. She's been unable to work for a couple of months and the family was about to be evicted. We collected enough to pay their rent for two months, and we got them a Thanksgiving dinner. We're now gathering Christmas gifts for the kids and trying to get more rent money.

In the last two years we've had two of our carriers, both in their 30's, die of cancer, and we managed to help their families for several months. So we're getting lots of practice.
