Remember you get what you pay for. Norton had a team of antivirus engineers prior to acquiring IBM's. I think the stand alone program is $29 and if you purchase Norton Suite (with utilities) its $59 total.

It runs in the background but you need at least 128 meg to work ok (I'm assuming WIN 98 operating system). WIN2000 is a different program (which I don't use).

They have the best program integration with its other products and windows (or at least they did two years ago and as I've upgraded I've had no problems).
