Actually, the original issue here was, "Are the children guilty of the sins of the fathers?" My answer is no, unless they become participants. So GWB is clear and so is JFK, et.al.

Mafioso was the wrong word. There was also an Irish mob; while Joe Kennedy reputedly had dealings with the Mafia, his major connections were to his compatriots.

Besides, I don't think a bootlegging was a dishonorable
profession. Prohibition was wrong; without it, the mob would not have gained such power.

Substitute drug trafficking for bootlegging. Does that still sound OK? Because that makes it true now and one thing you cannot avoid is that Joe was breaking the law in what the government at the time regarded as a serious matter.
