Well my 56k modem now says it's connecting at 115.2 I'm not sure I should keep on messing with it but modem init strings sure make a difference ! So my thanks to thecow for pointing me in the right direction. I also wanted to say that opera 5.x is finally ready for prime time. I still wouldn't reccomend it for new computer users but for people who like to tinker go for it !. I find it loads SI classic very fast (even back when my connect was only 37k). I am using the no-ads version so I don't know how much impact the ads have on performance. However I do not reccomend any previous version of opera for anybody. Don't waste your time. www.opera.com (use the java download approx 10 meg) Also reccomended is this power defrag tool. It disables all running tasks including screensavers so at least on my computer defrags are painless(with increased memory for defrag to use). e-technik.com Happy investing all ! Rob
