Because the Gnostic Christians didn't prevail over the Orthodox Christians, that means they didn't know shit, huh? Hmmmm.... Sounds a little arrogant to my Gnostic-admiring ears...
Yeah, the Gnostics may well bear little resemblance to modern Christianity--I'll buy THAT assertion lock, stock 'n barrel--but as far as I'm concerned, that's more of a commentary on MODERN Christianity than it is on the Gnostics. Furthermore, it is far from "obvious" that the Gospel of Thomas is a late date forgery (what evidence do you have to make this wild-a-s claim?), and your dismissal of those who believe that Thomas point of view is valid do so "for theological reasons unconnected to truthfulness" is, in my view, arrogant beyond, well, belief...
