It's probably best to be cautious for awhile.

Take a look at what happened back in 81 and ask if anything sounds familiar. Republicans took over with a strong position in congress, major tax cuts ensued with the result that the federal budget lost its balance, upward pressure was put on interest rates and then the economy, already teetering, sank into a deep recession with joblessness in the double digits for the first time since WWII.

Everyday we're reading about companies with massive lay-offs and so many dot coms and other techs bellying up.

Another for instance: A friend of mine told me that back in Washington DC they've added more than 14 million square feet of commercial building space in the Dulles Airport corridor in anticipation of all the economic growth that was supposed to happen (more than all of Atlanta's space) and they can't fill it. Does commercial building stop?

Loans are being defaulted on. No new money for lending to help companies grow. New lending policies are now in place by BofA and other banks making it next to impossible to get money. Investors are skittish and available money to grow is tighter. How does that impact forward guidance? earnings?

CLECs are in trouble as are alternative power companies. Rates are soaring.

How about the incredible volume of margin calls.

None of this bodes well for any significant pop in the market, IMO.
