Does anyone know the current aggregate ttm p/e of the NDX?
Does anyone know the historical average aggregate ttm p/e?

I seem to remember seeing a figure for the historical at somewhere just under 30 and the current figure somewhere near 100. Pretty amazing considering how quickly earnings growth is decelerating.

Anyway, if the above figures are approximately correct then the amount the NDX would have to fall to reach the historical average corresponds pretty well with my Linear Regression for the NDX since Dec. '90 of about 860.
BTW, the NDX first reached 860 in May 1997 - not that long ago. It's useful to remember that there have been no recessions in the '91 - '00 period, so this linear regression study only really covers the "best of times". Thankfully, a similar study of the compx as a whole isn't quite so ugly. The same linear regression on compx yields a value of about 1700, which was first reached in Sept. '97.
