Frank...I believe that the content providers will abide by industry standards to allow their content to reach as many end users as possible. The main audience delivery point of the cable mso's will be the settop box. However this does not exclude the delivery of the content to pc's that may be connected with high speed connections vdsl,etc..same for future wireless devices. All the settop boxes application software vendors are building using java code that will run anywhere. granted some settop boxes have more advanced features that can do more than the basic settop boxes. as an example a settop box with a built in hard drive can be used as a PDV.Personal Digital recorder while a settop box without a hard drive will not have this function. Building with open standards, allows for delivery in open as well as closed networks. Or a mixed environment such as a browser will be used on a settop box in an open network mode while delivery of digital commercials and e-commerce links can be closed to specific end point intranet/internet url's.
