JDS Uniphase and SDL expect to close merger in Jan SAN JOSE, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Merger partners JDS Uniphase Corp (TSE:JDU) (NASDAQ:JDSU) and SDL Inc (NASDAQ:SDLI), the top two players in the fibre-optic components industry, said on Monday they expect to complete their $25 billion combination in January, later than expected, due to antitrust issues. U.S. antitrust authorities have been scrutinising the deal, which calls for JDS Uniphase to purchase SDL and create a powerhouse maker of fibre-optic components for the telecoms industry. In a brief statement, the companies said they had expected to complete their merger by the end of December. As a result of the delay, the companies said they would push back special shareholder meetings currently scheduled for December 27, to a date still to be determined.
