VSAT satellite communications network from Gilat Satellite Networks is selected to provide broadband Internet service to consumers in China

PC-based SkyBlaster(TM) platform is foundation for service

Petah Tikva, Israel, December 4, 2000 - Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (NASDAQ: GILTF) has been selected by Shanghai Jianhua Satellite Network Co. Ltd. (Jianhua) to provide a 1,000-site SkyBlaster Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite communications network that Jianhua intends to use to provide broadband Internet services to Chinese consumers. This agreement was originally announced in Gilat's Nov. 13, 2000 earnings press release.

Erez Antebi, Gilat's General Manager, Asia, Africa and Pacific Rim, said, "The Chinese are rapidly embracing the Internet and are becoming Asia's largest Internet opportunity. Our leading satellite-based Internet solutions are well suited to delivering Internet access to Chinese consumers, no matter where they are located."

Recent reports by both the Yankee Group and International Data Corporation confirmed that China will become the largest Internet user base in Asia - with more than 16 million users - by 2003, surpassing Japan. By 2005, China's Internet users will outnumber those in the United States, the reports predict.
