I think that for the foreseeable future politicians in both parties will have to tone down the rhetoric while in public.

The flamethrowers haven't fared too well in recent times.

The media will have to pick up the slack. Also I think the use of civil lawsuits against sitting presidents is going to explode. If someone can come up with a lawsuit that will survive a summary judgment, the sitting president is then subject to extremely broad discovery rules

The object in such suits will not be to win the lawsuit, but to ask the president a bunch of embarrassing questions under oath.

I think what will go down in the history books re Clinton is not the impeachment, but the Paula Jones lawsuit. It provides the opposition party an opportunity to slime a sitting president without getting their hands dirty.
