Sorry to interrupt, but I have a Key West story (ok several, but I will stick with one or two).

In college (yes a few years ago, but not that many) I spent a few days with one group of friends in Lauderdale and then headed to this place called "Key West". Another group of friends had heard it was an insane place, the kind you find when the lack of land prevents further Westward migration.

Upon arriving I began my usual routine (I no longer drink, but lets say there was a period of time when I drank enough for the average lifetime). The first day there were no surprises, but still there was something, how shall I say it, well odd about the place.

That night (again in a drunken stupor) I was asked to leave the upper floor of a bar on Duval street. I did not care for this request considering I had not yet punched anyone or started any fires. Still no light bulbs went off, but the next day I remembered part of the event and just assumed I had offended someone for some reason unknown to me.

The next day I was standing in the 90 degree sun on Duval (trying to leach the toxins from the night before out of my body) and two guys, in full head-to-toe leather, came riding by on a bicycle built for two.

Suddenly it all made sense, and I never looked at John (the friend who actually booked the trip) the same way again -vbg-

In his defense he claimed he had no knowledge of this, and as a trusting sort I had no reason to doubt him.

Key West has changed quite a bit in the past 20 years. More college kids and families now, but even during that first visit there were plenty of women. I mean women that were interested in men. I mean women that were interested in me -vbg-

Its a great place and I recommend it highly to all. I saw a guy who had trained house cats as if they were big game and he was a lion tamer. They jumped through hoops of fire. What a place.

The upper floor I was asked to leave was having a gay night or something. I remember the next day having the strange feeling that I had some how been discriminated against, but I knew I had no rational to hold this as a valid view.

I guess I am saying that no one should avoid it because of the myth that it is a "gay" place. Its a place for everyone.

HAGO
