Saturday I helped Chris buy a camera on eBay. My bid technique is a variation on the one used around here to grub trophy grubs, open up several windows, load successive bids, and launch seriatim within the last minute - only I refresh one window just to keep track.

As soon as that was done, we went to the Gem and Jewelry Show, and I got some amethyst beads to make a necklace for my sister, and some lapis lazuli and some blue chalcedony beads for me. I've been craving some chalcedony beads for a while - I think they will go well with lapis, but had only been able to find strands in the $400-$500 range, which I though was way too high. I found a nice strand for far less than that, so I bought it. As we were driving away, I felt a pang of buyer's remorse and guilt about the price, when all of a sudden it struck me. I had spent almost exactly on the lapis and chalcedony beads what he had spent on the camera.

I suggested that the camera be a Christmas present from me and the lapis and chalcedony beads be a present from him.

He agreed. I told him, "Thank you for the lovely beads! I've been wanting some for a long time. They are exactly what I wanted!"

He said, "Thank you for the camera! I've been wanting one for a long time. It was exactly what I wanted!"
