Rory,

I know that was a rhetorical question, but...

What does "bullish" mean?

Centuries ago, before the gold standard, the principal unit of currency was Cattle. Payment "in kind" meant payment "in cattle" (my German is rusty, but I think kind means cow). The market consisted of exchanging cattle for other goods. Wall Street in New York was originally a big marketplace where cattle were exchanged within a walled enclosure. The wall served to keep the bulls in, and the bears out. When bears attacked, bulls were killed.

Early Wall Street was a brutal market. Not much has changed.
